About
The Gay Nineties is a sporadic, all-vinyl tribute to 1990s house music created by The Prey (NoFOMO / Circuit Breaker PDX).
This is not your typical pop throwback party. This is for the clubbers, ravers, and voguers who live for the four-to-the-floor!
For fans of Masters at Work, MK, Todd Terry, Livin’ Joy, Robin S, CeCe Peniston, Crystal Waters, Armand Van Helden, Murk, Deee-Lite, Robbie Tronco, Romanthony, Danny Tenaglia, Chez Damier, Black Science Orchestra, Junior Vasquez, C.L. McSpadden, Ultra Naté, Roxy, Kerri Chandler, Daft Punk, etc….

House Music is Black Music
I have always recognized and done my best to honor the fact that HOUSE MUSIC IS BLACK MUSIC. (And so is techno, disco, soul, rock, hip-hop, and essentially all the music you love.)
Probably 90% of the music that I play for all the Gay Nineties events was created by, or features, Black artists. But looking beyond 90s house, all of the music that I play as a DJ owes its existence to BIPOC and LGBTQ originators who have been systemically marginalized by society at large, and within the music industry specifically. My DJ moniker is a metaphor for people standing together in community in defiance of oppression. As a white gay DJ with a deep passion for creating and participating in LGBTQ nightlife, I continue the personal and collaborative work of being a better anti-racist ally and dismantling all aspects of white/cis/hetero/patriarchal supremacy. With love, The Prey |
